The Lone Wolf's Dance (2016)

for solo bassoon

4'30

Premiered by Timothy Wisdom at Berklee College of Music, on 30th November, 2016.

Bassoons are like wolves - they work well in the pack, blending with the others. But today our bassoon is left alone, and it gets to rediscover itself! It will howl, it will dance, and it will do whatever else it wants (don't judge it!), because today it is the Lone Wolf. This piece is almost programmatic in nature - depicting the wolf discovering its own, individual howl and then moving on to a hedonistic, folk-like dance, where it revels in its new found loneliness - a trait that is fearful to some, but easily embraced by the Wolf.
